Detail - Solnhofen Floating Crinoids
Order: Comatuida, Genus: Saccocoma. These Solnhofen floating crinoid are as their name
says, they did not attach themselves to the sea bed, but rather floated in the Jurassic
waters of what is now the sandstone layers of the Solnhofen limestone. These specimens
have been stained to bring out detail. The approximate dimensions of the specimen is 1-
3/4 in diameter on a 2 1/2 to 4 inches nibbled oval matrix. They make an excellent
book case display. We recommend a DIS-35B display stand for this fossil.
